The Birds' Gift: A Ukrainian Easter Story

The Birds' Gift: A Ukrainian Easter Story
The Birds' Gift: A Ukrainian Easter Story. This atmospheric folktale by the author and illustrator of The Magic Dreidels will interest anyone who has ever admired Ukrainian decorated Easter eggs, or pysanky, as they are identified here.

The story is uncomplicated: when winter arrives early and with severe storms, Katrusya inspires the whole village to rescue the hundreds upon hundreds of tiny birds trapped in the snow. Later, when spring comes, the birds show their gratitude by leaving the world's first pysanky.

Ukrainian Design Book

Ukrainian Design Book
Ukrainian Design Book. This is the first book of a series of previously unpublished patterns for the reader to recreate and enjoy. By breaking down the design to its simplest form, you will discover that you can create very complicated and magnificent patterns.

As we describe each egg from beginning pencil lines to the final dye bath, the symbolism and color meanings will also be explained. If you are a beginner to the art of pysanky, as I am, this book will not be enough to get you started. It gives brief directions and gets straight to the patterns, which are after all the point of this book.

The cover has color photos of all the egg designs presented in the book, the inside cover has black-and-white pictures of the sides of the eggs; the pages of the book contain only black and white line drawings of the patterns.

A Christ-Centered Easter: Day-By-Day Activities to Celebrate Easter Week

A Christ-Centered Easter: Day-By-Day Activities to Celebrate Easter Week
A Christ-Centered Easter: Day-By-Day Activities to Celebrate Easter Week. This is a wonderful book that really captures the spirit of Easter and helps to shift the focus from chocolate and bunnies to Christ and His Atonement and Resurection. The format is that of a "Holy Week" celebration and has devotional ideas for every day from Palm Sunday through Easter.

It is well organized and has many great suggestions for children and adults of all ages. As an LDS parent of two small daughters, I found ideas to start new family traditions that invite the Spirit and keeps the focus on our Savior and the "Good News" we have to Celebrate

Giving it Up: Daily Bible Readings from Ash Wednesday to Easter Day

Giving it Up: Daily Bible Readings from Ash Wednesday to Easter Day
Giving it Up: Daily Bible Readings from Ash Wednesday to Easter Day. This title focuses on the importance of understanding who God is - and who he is not. It explores the core Lenten idea of 'giving up', taking it beyond the traditional idea of simply abstaining from something.

It includes daily Bible readings and reflections for every day from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday. It is written by author of "Beginnings and Endings", BRF's best-selling 2007 Advent book. It includes questions for personal reflection or discussion, linked to each weekly section.

It is suitable for those looking out for the annual "BRF Lent book", those who enjoy Maggi Dawn's other writings (including her "BRF Advent book"), and people seeking a renewed/deeper experience of God, questioning their current spiritual assumptions.

Let's Celebrate Jesus on Easter

Let's Celebrate Jesus on Easter
Let's Celebrate Jesus on Easter. Simple coloring pages and Bible verses make this coloring book perfect for your little ones hands and heart. Perfect for your growing child

I saw this book one year at Barnes and Noble and haven't seen it since. When my boys finally loved it to death I knew I needed a replacement, I bought 3 copies to also give to friends with young children.

The book shows the children engaging in traditional Easter activities such as dyeing and hunting for Easter eggs and receiving Easter baskets filled with goodies. But with each tradition it relates it back to Christ and the true meaning of Easter. For example, the page that discusses dyeing eggs says, "At Easter we decorate eggs with lots of bright colors. But Jesus is the one who colors my world every day." And there is scripture that accompanies and supports each comparison, "The heavens tell of the glory of God, Psalm 19:1".
